Temple of Poseidon

At Cape Sounion, the Temple of Poseidon and Athena is one of the most important sanctuaries in Attica. The cape and the surrounding areas were the ancient borough of Sounion which belonged to Leontida race. References for the sacredness of the space we have in the Odyssey of Homer. The fifth example century is the golden age of Sounion namely the years that followed the Greek-Persian wars.

Τhe city of Laurio

Laurium was famous in Classical antiquity for its silver mines, which was one of the chief sources of revenue of the Athenian state. The metallic silver was mainly used for coinage. The Archaeological Museum of Lavrion shows much of the story of these mines. 

Today that is no longer working the mines, the city is moving in its own quiet pace. The visitor can enjoy it (just 4km from Cape Villa), do a quick walk in the port city, stop for a coffee and cake in one of the bars, to taste delicious seafood and drink Greek wine or ouzo in one of the many nice tavernas.

Quite literally rammed in green, only 1 klm from Cape Villa, the beach Pountazeza (Panormos) is huge, sandy and outside umbrellas and has a most beautiful clump of trees to spread your towel in the shade. The youth gathered around the beach bar for drinks, coffee and souvlaki. For romance of the sunset and cooling dips.
